Airbrush

Airbrush is a photo and video editor for people who want a picture to look finished without learning a full desktop suite. The homepage describes AI filters, tools to smooth skin, remove objects, and adjust backgrounds. The same page shows a demonstration of modes: Object, Old photo, Scenery, Pets, and an Image Enhancer. Phone apps on Android and iOS cover edits away from a desk. Airbrush Studio is the desktop editor for people who want those retouching tools on a larger screen. You can start with the free features. Credits and the Web Plus subscription are how premium styles and longer jobs are metered.

Is Airbrush right for you?

Use Airbrush when the picture is mostly right and one region is wrong: skin that needs smoothing, an object that should disappear, or a background that fights the subject. Work in passes. Smooth less than you think, then zoom in on edges around hair and glasses before you decide the portrait is done. Object removal is a different pass from skin, and a background replacement is a third. The homepage demo splits old photos, scenery, and pets into their own modes, which is a better start than forcing a portrait preset onto a landscape. Video is supported, and it spends more credits than a still. The pricing page, not the editor canvas, is where you see the credit math.

A good fit for

  • A headshot that needs cleaner skin without repainting the face.
  • Removing a distraction from a group photo or a background that does not fit.
  • A phone edit of a portrait, an old photo, or a pet when you are not at a desk.

Know the trade-offs

  • Skin, object removal, and background changes are separate passes. One slider does not do all three well.
  • Video costs more credits than a photo. A clip over a minute steps up again.
  • An account requires the fields the signup form marks as mandatory. The privacy policy is the document that says what Pixocial collects.

Skin, objects, backgrounds, and the other modes

Smooth skin without repainting the face

The homepage puts smooth skin next to the other everyday edits. On a headshot, start there and stop while pores and the edge of the jaw still look like a person. Glasses, hair against the cheek, and teeth are the places an aggressive smooth pass goes wrong. Zoom in after the first pass. If the skin looks flatter than the eyes, undo and use less.

AI filters sit alongside that manual pass. Use a filter when you want a look across the whole frame, and use the skin tool when only the face should change. Airbrush Studio is the desktop version of this work, for people who want the same retouching on a monitor. The phone apps are the same idea when the photo is still on the camera roll. Neither one requires you to finish in a single gesture.

Remove an object or change the background

Object removal is the mode for something that should not be in the frame: a sign, a stray arm, a cord. Select that object rather than the person you want to keep. Look at the fill that replaces it. If the pattern behind the object smears, try a smaller selection. Background adjustment is the separate control, for when the subject is fine and the room or the color behind them is not. Replacing a background and removing an object in one pass makes it harder to see which change failed.

The homepage image lines the modes up so you can match the file. Old photo is for a faded print, not for a new headshot. Scenery is for a place. Pets is for an animal, where fur and whiskers behave differently from hair on a person. Image Enhancer is the pass that lifts detail after the content is right. Choose the mode from what the picture is, then do the one repair it needs.

Photos first, then short video

The same retouching tools are described for photos and for video. Start with a still so you can judge skin, an object, or a background at full size. When that look is right, apply it to a short clip rather than to the whole file. Trim first. A long clip includes frames you will cut, and video spends more credits as it gets longer. The schedule, including how a clip past one minute is counted, is in the pricing section.

A credit pack and Web Plus are optional ways to pay for premium styles and longer jobs. They do not change the order of the edit. Free features are available before either purchase. Finish the still or the short clip, then decide whether the next files need a pack or the subscription.

Ways to use Airbrush

Finish a headshot in a few passes

Open the portrait. Smooth the skin lightly, then check hair, glasses, and the line of the jaw at a larger zoom. If the background is busy, adjust that next, after the face is acceptable. Export when a person who knows the subject would still recognize them.

These steps suggest a portrait, not a restoration and not a pet photo. Stop adding filters once the face looks consistent. A second export with heavier smoothing is easy to compare if you keep the first file.

Lift a distraction out of a group photo

Use the Object mode on the item that does not belong, and leave the people alone. Inspect the patch at full size. If the removal eats a shoulder or a hand, undo and select less of the frame. Do not smooth every face in the same gesture unless someone asked for that.

This is a cleanup. It is a poor time to replace the entire background, because you will not know which edit caused a halo. Save the cleaned file before any later color pass.

Restore an old photo or a pet picture

Choose Old photo for a faded print, or Pets for an animal. Enhancer can be the second pass if the scan is soft, after the mode has done the job it is named for. Fur and whiskers need a lighter hand than a portrait cheek. A landscape belongs in Scenery, not in the portrait smooth tool.

These steps suggest matching the mode to the subject. A pack of credits is optional until the free tools stop covering the export you need. The pricing page is where that cost is spelled out.

How to get started with Airbrush

  1. 1

Match the mode to the picture

Portrait skin, Object, Old photo, Scenery, or Pets. The homepage lines those up so the preset fits the subject.

  2. 2

    Change one region

Smooth, remove, or replace the background. Zoom in on edges before you stack a second effect.

  3. 3

    Trim video before you export

A still is the cheap test. Video spends more credits as it gets longer, and the pricing page states the schedule. Cut what you will not keep.

  4. 4

Export, then decide if you need a pack

Free features cover a first pass. Buy a credit pack or Web Plus when the premium tool or the export requires it.

Alternatives to Airbrush

Leonardo AI

You are generating a new image, not retouching one you took.

Leonardo generates images and video from a prompt, with a separate credit balance from the web app. Airbrush is the fit when the photo already exists and the work is skin, an object, or a background.

Runway

The edit is a moving shot, not a portrait still.

Runway generates and edits video, including removing an object from a clip. Airbrush is the closer tool for a face, an old photo, or a short phone video that needs a light retouch.

Descript

You are cutting a talking-head video by its transcript.

Descript edits video by deleting words in a transcript. Airbrush does not transcribe. Use Airbrush when the frame needs a visual cleanup and the edit is not about the spoken words.
