Microsoft Copilot

Microsoft’s work pages describe Copilot as chat and multi-step Cowork on your content, inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. Work IQ is the grounding layer. Cards list individual, business, add-on, and enterprise prices. A one-month trial requires a card and then becomes paid.

Is Microsoft Copilot right for you?

Microsoft Copilot fits a team already in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams that wants the assistant in those apps. The work page separates Chat, a Cowork handoff, Code for a described dashboard or tracker, and Autopilot as a cloud-hosted agent. Business cards name Work IQ, 1 TB of storage, and identity management for up to 300 users. It is a weak fit if you need a no-card free plan. The pricing notes describe a one-month trial that converts to paid, and a credit card is required to sign up. Several cards also say the product is not available in your market.

A good fit for

  • Asking Chat questions grounded in work, or handing multi-step work to Cowork.
  • Using Copilot inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Comparing the shown individual, business, add-on, and enterprise prices before a trial.

Know the trade-offs

  • The trial text says a card is required and the subscription converts to paid when the month ends.
  • Code is marked Microsoft Frontier, Autopilot is Private Preview, and some cards say the product is not available in your market.

What the Copilot work pages describe.

Chat on Home, or a handoff to Cowork

Copilot connects with your work content and the apps you already use, bringing together the latest AI models to help you create finished work, not just answers. Home is your starting point in Copilot, bringing Chat and Cowork together in one place. From there you review recent activity or start something new. Use Chat for answers grounded in your work, or hand off complex, multi-step work to Cowork across your apps, data, and workflows. Home view is available in Microsoft Frontier. The Frontier label means the page does not say every account sees Home. A Cowork page adds the English lines Delegate real work to Copilot Cowork and Walk into every customer meeting fully briefed. The English work page already defines the handoff and does not list inbox steps.

Code, Autopilot, and agents you describe

Copilot Code is a build path. No coding experience needed. Describe the dashboard, tracker, or app you want, and Copilot builds it with the power of code. That path is marked Available in Microsoft Frontier. Autopilot is your always-on personal agent with its own identity, memory, and access to tools. It is cloud-hosted, and keeps work moving in the background, using Microsoft 365 and Work IQ to take action within the guardrails you and your organization set. Available in Private Preview. A third path is Agent Builder: Turn your expertise into personalized, work-grounded agents in minutes using natural language with Agent Builder in Copilot. Extend and manage them with Copilot Studio when you're ready to scale. The page does not price Studio credits.

Office apps, Work IQ, and Auto

Copilot is integrated into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, where your work already happens. The pricing page adds AI-powered chat connected to your work data and access to reasoning AI for research and data analysis. Work IQ grounds Copilot in your company, your team’s roles, and the context behind your projects. Focus on the work, not the model. Auto weighs accuracy, speed, and cost for each request, helping determine the right model and effort for the task at hand. Work with Copilot across desktop, mobile, and web using voice, keyboard, or pen. A later line says Copilot will also help orchestrate work across Chat, Cowork, and Code, framed as looking ahead rather than as a control that is on today.

Security wording and the 300-user business cards

Copilot is designed to be secure and private, built on the trusted Microsoft 365 foundation your organization already uses. Enterprise-grade controls protect your data, people, and business, while keeping work and personal accounts separate. That paragraph does not name a retention period or a certification. Privacy and Terms of use are footer links only. Premium lists advanced identity and access management for up to 300 users, 1 TB of cloud storage per user, and apps including Loop, Clipchamp, Bookings, Planner, and Forms. Standard says identity and access management for up to 300 users, without the word advanced. Both cards say this product is not available in your market.

Ways to use Microsoft Copilot

A question that should use work files

Uses Chat on Home when that view is available. Ask for an answer grounded in your work, and move to Cowork only when the job is multi-step across apps, data, and workflows. If the result should land in a file, the suggested follow-up is Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, or Teams. Work IQ is the named context layer.

A small tracker without writing code

A suggested Code path uses the page’s examples: describe the dashboard, tracker, or app you want. No coding experience is required on that line, and the control is marked Microsoft Frontier, so it may be hidden outside that program. For work that should continue in the background, Autopilot is the other agent, marked Private Preview, and limited to guardrails you and your organization set.

Picking a business card before checkout

For enterprise is $30.00 user/month, paid yearly and names Copilot Studio. Then read the footnotes. An annual commitment is required, and promotional pricing applies to the first year only. The trial converts to a paid subscription, a card is required, and canceling during the trial stops future charges. Cards also say the product is not available in your market.
