Cody

Cody at meetcody.ai says it will meet four specialized Cody agents built to answer from your knowledge, convert website visitors, deliver controlled responses, and show up with a face and voice. Those products are Assist, Convert, Clear, and Live. Assist answers every question from your knowledge base, for your team and for your customers, with a citation on every claim. You can start free with Assist, and the page says no credit card is required. The free personal plan includes 100 credits a month, up to 100 documents, and one website widget. Paid Assist plans are Basic at $29 / month, Premium at $99 / month, and Advanced at $249 / month. Convert is a separate early-access price, from $299 / month.

Is Cody right for you?

Use Cody when the answer has to come from files you connect, not from the public web. The homepage puts it bluntly: ChatGPT knows the public internet. Cody knows your business. Assist is the documented path for staff and customers, with sources on each reply and a widget you can place without code. Convert is for a bot that opens the chat. Clear and Live are named, then sent to sales with no public rate. The credit FAQ says usage depends on the model and the query and does not publish a table, so a $29 plan is not a promise of a fixed number of answers. Basic also omits the website crawler and cannot remove Cody branding.

A good fit for

  • An ops or support team that wants policy answers with the source file attached.
  • A site that needs one widget now and can live inside 100 free credits while testing.
  • A marketing team comparing Convert's engaged-conversation prices before a sales call for Clear or Live.

Know the trade-offs

  • Credits have no published cost per model. The usage tab is the only tracking method named.
  • Cody Live and Cody Clear have no public price. Basic cannot crawl a site or remove branding.

Four agents, one knowledge base, cited answers.

Four products, four moments

The homepage splits Cody by job. Assist is the knowledge agent: connect documents, drives, sites, and tools, then answer staff and customers with the source attached. The inputs it names are PowerPoint, PDF, Word, media, websites, and business tools. Sharing is links, embeds, Slack, Discord, Zapier, and an API, with permission-scoped retrieval. Convert is the proactive website agent that starts a chat when intent looks high. Clear is the compliance-grade agent: match a question to controlled content and keep generation behind gates a compliance team defines. Live is avatars and experiences, a face and a voice for an event stand, with lead capture. The same page says you train Cody once and every enabled agent can use that knowledge. A Solution Design Study is the other route, for complex or regulated rollouts: map data, controls, integrations, and rollout before implementation. No fee for that study is shown. The homepage also shows sample chats with source chips. Those transcripts are page illustrations, not a measured Cody result.

Official documentation

Assist cites the file it used

The Assist page says every answer is retrieved from the documents you trained it on, so it is not improvised, and sources are attached so someone can check them in one click. You can ask in one language and receive the answer in another, still on the same sources. Training inputs listed here are documents, presentations, PDFs, websites, and business tools. The setup is five named steps: upload files or connect URLs, set role, instructions, response style, and guardrails, share a link, inline embed, or popup, ask in chat, and work across languages. The page says you do not need to code to upload, create, and share. A customizable website widget is included, plus integrations and an API when you need them. For staff it names policy answers, IT troubleshooting from support docs, and drafts. For customers it names a widget, logged conversations, and 24/7 answers from approved content. That 24/7 line is the page's wording, not a measured uptime. Folders are how knowledge is organized. No folder limit is stated.

Permissions, models, and where it runs

Under every product the homepage lists the same controls. Retrieval can use documents, drives, sites, tickets, and databases, with the source available. Agents can call your systems and complete multi-step work with approvals you define. Role-specific scope follows the user. Model control is explicit: choose the model for each workflow and switch without rebuilding the pipeline. Cody is model-agnostic by design. Audit says every query, decision, and output is logged and exportable. Data sovereignty says deploy in cloud, private cloud, hybrid, or on premises when your data needs to stay inside your environment. The plan cards then limit which models you can pick. Basic lists GPT-5 Mini only. Premium and Advanced list GPT-5 Mini, GPT-5, and Claude 4 Sonnet. So model choice is real, and the seat still decides the menu. No on-premises setup steps, region list, or log-export format is.

Official documentation

Widget, crawler, and branding by seat

Every paid plan includes a customizable website widget and API access. That sentence does not apply to the free card. Cody Free is 100 credits / month, 100 documents, and 1 website widget, with no card required. Basic at $29 / month adds 2,500 monthly credits, 3 team members, 1,000 documents, 14-day conversation history, and one website. The crawler, automatic website sync, and removing Cody branding are marked not included. Premium at $99 / month is marked most popular: 10,000 monthly credits, 10 team members, sync for 3 websites, 10,000 documents and 10,000 website pages, 30-day history, crawler included, branding removable. Advanced at $249 / month lists 25,000 monthly credits, 30 team members, sync for 9 websites, 25,000 website pages, 90-day history, and 50 widget installs. It does not show a document cap next to that page count. Credits measure usage. The number used depends on the model and query, and you can track consumption in real time from the usage tab. No credit weight per model is published.

Ways to use Cody

Policy answers for staff

A suggested internal setup uploads the handbook and the policy PDFs, creates one assistant with a role and guardrails, and shares a link or Slack. People ask in chat and open the cited file. Permission scope is supposed to follow the user. Basic keeps 14 days of conversation history. Free does not state a history window at all.

A help widget on one site

A suggested customer path embeds the widget, lets visitors ask in their language, and reviews the logged conversation later. The Assist page says the widget does not require code. Free includes one widget. Basic also includes one website and still shows Cody branding. Premium is the first Assist card with a crawler, three websites, and branding removal. If the help center is a set of URLs rather than files, that crawler line is the documented fork.

A proactive chat, or a quote instead

Convert is priced by engaged conversations: sessions where Cody opens and holds the chat. A suggested comparison is Growth at $299 / month for 300 of those sessions on one website, versus Scale at $749 / month for 1,000 sessions, audience rules, and a CRM handoff via Zapier and an API. Clear and Live are not on that menu. The pricing page says both are scoped around your requirements and quoted with the team. Enterprise Convert is Custom, with unlimited engaged conversations and SSO. Do not read a third-party coding-assistant price as this Cody.

How to get started with Cody

  1. 1

    Upload files or connect URLs

Assist says to teach it from the knowledge you trust. PowerPoint, PDF, Word, media, and sites are the homepage's list.

  2. 2

    Set the assistant's job

Role, instructions, response style, and guardrails are the customization fields the Assist page names.

  3. 3

Share a link, embed, or popup

Place it for the team or on the site. The page says this share step does not require code.

  4. 4

    Ask, then open the source

The chat answer is supposed to list the sources it used. Check the credit balance in the usage tab as you go.

Free Assist credits, then Basic through Scale.

Enterprise Convert is Custom, with unlimited engaged conversations, SSO, and a dedicated success manager. Cody Live and Cody Clear have no figures on this page. The credit FAQ does not say how many credits a GPT-5 or Claude reply costs. Payment methods and refunds for Cody itself were not verified here. A refund story on the Assist page is a sample answer from a customer's policy file, not Cody's billing rule.

Alternatives to Cody

ChatGPT

You want answers from the public web, not only from your files.

Cody's homepage says ChatGPT knows the public internet and Cody knows your business, with sources from documents you connect. Choose ChatGPT when that public assistant is the job.

character.ai

The conversation is open-ended, not cited from a handbook.

Cody Assist is built to attach a source to each business answer and to scope retrieval by user. Character.ai is a separate listing for open conversation. Pick it when citations and a company knowledge base are not the point.

Cody: common questions

Can I try Cody without a card?

Yes. The free personal plan includes 100 credits per month, up to 100 documents, and one website widget. The homepage says no credit card is required to start Assist. You can upgrade when you need more capacity or team access. The free card does not list a model name or a history window.

Source
What do Assist credits buy?

Credits measure usage. The number used depends on the model and query, and you can track consumption in real time from the usage tab. Basic includes 2,500 monthly credits, Premium 10,000, and Advanced 25,000. No per-model weight is shown, so those totals are allowances, not a count of answers.

Source
Which Assist plan can crawl a site and drop the logo?

Basic marks the website crawler, automatic website sync, and removing Cody branding as not included. It still includes widget customization, API access, and one website. Premium and Advanced include the crawler and branding removal. Premium syncs 3 websites. Advanced syncs 9 and allows 50 widget installs.

Source
How is Convert counted, and what about Clear and Live?

Convert is priced by engaged conversations, meaning sessions where Cody proactively opens and holds a conversation. Growth includes 300 a month, Scale 1,000, and Enterprise custom volume. Cody Live and Cody Clear are scoped around your requirements, controls, and rollout. The page says the team will build the quote. No Live or Clear number is shown.

Source
Do the agents share training data?

Yes. Train Cody once on your documents, websites, and tools, then every agent you enable can use the same knowledge, integrations, and permissions. Assist can still be specialized with its own role, instructions, response style, and guardrails.

Source
Does the vendor state a privacy rule or a Cody refund policy?

Deploy in cloud, private cloud, hybrid, or on premises is the sovereignty line, without a setup guide. A 30-day refund sentence on the Assist page is a demo answer citing refund-policy.pdf, not a Cody billing policy.
