Is Scholarcy right for you?

Scholarcy fits a reader who already holds the file and wants one card shape: Spotlight points, notes beside the text, and a library to reopen before a lecture or a supervisor meeting. It is a weaker fit when you need a numeric monthly price before you subscribe, or when the job starts from a question rather than an import. Paid cards add the library tools and bulk export. The free card keeps a cap and one-at-a-time export.

A good fit for

  • Screening papers, chapters, and articles into one flashcard layout.
  • Filing references, figures, and tables from reading you will reopen.
  • Turning a Zotero library into flashcards and a Word bibliography.

Know the trade-offs

  • The free card says 10 summaries; the FAQ also says 1 summary per day.
  • Monthly and Scholarcy Plus dollar amounts were not shown on the public pricing page.
  • Canceling keeps summaries, but you re-subscribe to continue using Scholarcy.

From an imported file to a Scholarcy flashcard.

Import the file, then read one flashcard

The homepage says you can summarize any paper, article, or textbook. You can summarize videos too! Scholarcy converts long complex texts into interactive summary flashcards, which highlight key information. The import row lists PDFs, book chapters, articles, studies, plain text, Zotero, Google Drive, and YouTube. Import any file, from anywhere. The same section covers a chapter you already have: have a chapter downloaded, or a folder of PDFs and Word docs. Flashcards provide a structured, consistent format for reading just one article or 20.

Set the summary length, then jump and mark the text

Enhance is the length control. Change the summary to match your reading style with our Enhance feature. Choose from a single sentence to a researcher level overview. Those are the only ends the homepage names. Spotlight is a separate jump toward the important points, key concepts, and contributions. Smart highlighting and analyzing features guide you to important sections of text and help you interpret them. Add notes while you read and pick up right where you left off. A further line points you to more reading and to how the article compares with earlier work. Highlight colors and the note field are not shown.

Official documentation

Keep the card, the references, and the figures

Generate and save flashcards to your library even while browsing and reading on the go. The pricing recap calls that library a set of flashcard summaries you can sort and search. Store all of your references, figures and tables and easily find them again. The homepage names the moment for that store: remind yourself of the key facts and findings before a lecture or meeting with your supervisor. Saving and notes are not on the free card, which lists import, a limit of 10 summaries, and export one flashcard at a time. Save your flashcards, Take notes, highlight and edit text, and Organise flashcards into collections are shown on the Monthly plan and on Scholarcy Plus.

Official documentation

Export, pull in Zotero, and build a Word bibliography

Export your flashcards to a range of file formats that are compatible with lots of research and productivity apps. Learn more about your texts and how they compare, or connect by exporting to Excel, PKMS and more. Convert your Zotero library into Scholarcy Flashcards for more efficient article screening. You can also generate a one-click, fully formatted bibliography in Word. Paid cards add Literature Matrix creation, One-click bibliographies, and Export up to 100 flashcards at once. The matrix is only a label, with excluded columns described. The apply section shows a journal draft with abstract, introduction, methods, and results. It does not document an editor that writes that draft.

Ways to use Scholarcy

Screen a seminar folder before you read in full

Starts from the folder you already downloaded. Import the PDFs and Word docs the homepage names so each file becomes a flashcard before you open it at page one. Use the single-sentence Enhance setting to drop items that miss the seminar question, then switch keepers to a researcher level overview and read the important points, key concepts, and contributions. The flashcard points at sections and is not the methods or results you will cite.

Reopen figures and references before a supervisor meeting

Another suggested path follows the homepage’s meeting line. After cards are saved, reopen the stored references, figures, and tables, and remind yourself of the key facts and findings before you walk in. Bring the figure the card stored, plus your own question. Save your flashcards and Take notes, highlight and edit text are on the Monthly plan and Scholarcy Plus, not on the free card. The Free Article Summarizer exports one flashcard at a time. Treat the meeting path as suggested only when your plan lists saving and notes.

Move a Zotero library toward a Word bibliography

A third suggested path starts in a Zotero library you already keep. Turn it into flashcards, drop items you will not cite, then generate the Word bibliography or send the cards to your citation manager. Excel and a PKMS export are the other connectors if notes need to leave Scholarcy. One-click bibliographies and Literature Matrix creation sit on the paid cards, and one export stops at 100 flashcards. No matrix columns are described.

Alternatives to Scholarcy

Elicit

The work starts from a question, not a file you already hold.

Scholarcy’s pages start from a file you can import and return a flashcard. Open Elicit when that file-first card is not the job.

SciSpace

You want another paper workspace, not this flashcard library.

SciSpace is another research title here, not a mode inside Scholarcy. Choose it when you are not filing Scholarcy flashcards or using the literature-matrix label.

Scite

A summary card of one document is the wrong unit.

Scite is a different research slug, not an export named on the Scholarcy pages. Use it when a flashcard, a saved card, or the Word bibliography is not the job.

Scholarcy: common questions

What can I import into Scholarcy?

The homepage lists PDFs, book chapters, articles, studies, plain text, Zotero, Google Drive, and YouTube, and it says you can summarize videos too. It also mentions a downloaded chapter and a folder of PDFs and Word docs. Both the free and paid cards say they import a range of file formats. No size cap or scan-and-OCR step is stated.

How limited is the Free Article Summarizer?

The free card is priced at $0 and lists a limit of 10 summaries plus export of flashcards one at a time. The FAQ says you can generate up to 1 summary per day with the free Article Summarizer, and that you can access that summarizer for free. Both lines are shown. The page never says which cap wins.

What do the Monthly plan and Scholarcy Plus add?

Paid cards add unlimited summarization, enhanced summaries, saved flashcards, notes, collections, export of up to 100 flashcards, a literature matrix, and one-click bibliographies. Scholarcy Plus is yearly and includes a 25% discount. The Monthly plan has a 1 week free trial, then bills each month, and you can cancel at any time.

Source
What happens if I cancel Scholarcy?

If you cancel your subscription, you will not lose your Summaries. Re-subscribe at any time to continue using Scholarcy. The page does not say that a canceled account keeps enhanced summaries, collections, or bulk export. It says the summaries remain and that continued use needs a new subscription. The trial FAQ adds that canceling inside the free period means you will not be billed.

Does Scholarcy write the article for me?

The homepage shows a journal-article draft with abstract, introduction, methods, and results, and says to turn reading into an argument. It does not describe a generator or a prompt that produces that draft. Documented outputs stay the flashcard, notes, exports, and the one-click Word bibliography.

What do the public pages say about an account and privacy?

Start Free and Login sit in the header, and the pages do not describe summarizing with no account. The free Article Summarizer is that signup path at $0 and not an anonymous tool. Cookies are mentioned for logins, payments, marketing, and stats. Further questions go to support@scholarcy.com.
