Ideogram ( pronounced "eye-dee-oh-gram" ) turns a plain-language prompt into images and videos, then lets you edit them in the same place. The docs say to use Ideogram's own models, including Ideogram 4.5, or partner models from other providers. You can use it in the web app, the iOS app, or through the API. Write a prompt, pick a model, and get images in seconds. Make an image up to 8 times larger and sharper. On the free plan, everything you generate is public. The plans table shows Free at $0 with 30 credits a week, Plus at $20/month, and Pro at $60/month.
A prompt, plus optional reference images on models that accept them
Output
Images, short video with sound, and edited or upscaled stills
Access
Web app, iOS app, or the API, which uses the same credits
Is Ideogram right for you?
Ideogram fits a prompt that has to become a still image, a short video with sound, or an edit in Studio. Every plan, free included, can use Auto and all Ideogram models. Ideogram 4.5 is the newest model and the only Ideogram model that takes reference images, so it is the one the docs point to when you edit or combine images with a prompt. Paid plans are Plus ($20/month, 2,400 credits a month), Pro ($60/month, 7,500 credits) and Team ($30 per user/month, 3,600 credits per user). Yearly billing is lower on the table: $15/month ($180 a year) for Plus and $42/month ($504 a year) for Pro.
A good fit for
A prompt that should become an image, with optional exact words handled in Studio if the first render is wrong.
A weekly trial on Google, Apple, or Microsoft sign-in, knowing free images are public.
A team of at least 2 users that wants the Team credit allotment and private images until publish.
Know the trade-offs
Accounts created with email and password do not get the free weekly credits. They can buy credits or subscribe.
Reference images and image edits always cost credits, even on Plus, Pro, and Team after the slower queue starts.
Ideogram.ai itself returned a block on this pass. The numbers here are from docs.ideogram.ai, not from a public marketing checkout.
Prompt, model picker, and the credit queue.
Start on Home with Image or Video
The welcome page says Ideogram ( pronounced "eye-dee-oh-gram" ) turns a plain-language prompt into images and videos, then lets you edit them in the same place. Get started is three steps. Sign in at ideogram.ai with Google, Apple, Microsoft, SSO, or email. Only Google, Apple, and Microsoft sign-ins get free weekly credits. Make the first image by typing what you want on Home and pressing Enter. Learn to prompt from the Prompting Basics page. The FAQ repeats the same start: go to ideogram.ai, sign in, pick a username, and on Home type under "What will you design?", choose Image or Video, and send it. Create images is write a prompt, pick a model, and get images in seconds. Create videos is turn a prompt, frames or reference clips into a short video with sound. Edit in Studio is change part of an image, extend it, add text, and work in layers. Upscale is make an image up to 8 times larger and sharper. Remove backgrounds is cut out a subject, or take an object out of a picture. Text that reads right is put exact words, layouts and colors in an image with a prompt or JSON. The FAQ says to put the exact words in quotation marks and generate again, or fix one word in Studio with AI edit, Select area on a paid plan, or Layerize text. To edit an image you made in Ideogram, download it first, then upload it to Studio.
The model page says pick a model from the Model picker in the Image app. Each model has its own settings, and the panel changes when you switch. The list comes from Ideogram's servers, so what you see can change over time. Auto sits at the top of the picker, and the Image app opens on it. You write the prompt; Auto picks a model for you when the run starts. If you attach reference images, it picks a model that treats your prompt as an edit instruction. Auto allows up to 10 reference images, aspect ratios including 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, and 9:16, and a number of images that is 4, or 2 when you attach references. Auto has no Magic Prompt or Quality setting. Because the model is not known until the run starts, the Generate button shows an estimated cost with a ~ in front. You pay what the chosen model would charge. Every plan, free included, can use Auto and all Ideogram models. Ideogram 4.5 is the newest model. It is the only Ideogram model that takes reference images, so use it to edit or combine images with a prompt. Its prompt is text or JSON, up to 10,000 characters, with up to 5 reference images, resolution 1K or 2K, and quality from Very low to High. Ideogram 4.0 offers very wide aspect ratios such as 23:9 and 3:1, at 1K or 2K. Ideogram 3.0 is the only model with style presets, style reference images, negative prompts and color palettes. Transparent models, 4.0 and 3.0, make images with a clear background and do not take reference images. Output resolution on 4.0 Transparent can be 1K, 2K, 4K, or 8K, and Ideogram upscales anything above 2K after it generates. Partner models need a paid plan or bought credits when they are marked Premium. On a free plan, picking one opens an upgrade window. GPT Image 2.0 takes up to 16 reference images at 1K, 2K, or 4K and is marked Premium. Z-Image and P-Image-Ideogram are marked Free. A custom model learns a look from images you upload and uses Ideogram 3.0 settings. Older 2.0 and 2a may still appear. For new work, the page says use Ideogram 4.5 or 4.0.
Images, videos, edits, upscales and app runs all cost credits. The cost depends on the model, quality, size and number of outputs. In most image apps, the run button shows the cost before you start. The Video app does not show a cost on its button. Settings, then Usage costs, is where the docs say to see what everything costs, including video. You spend monthly credits from your plan first. They reset on each renewal date, and unused monthly credits do not roll over. Purchased credits are spent after that. The user menu shows Credits. Buy credits sits under a plan. Without a plan you see Upgrade. Wallet and Billing has the credit balance card, Add credits, and Turn on auto recharge. When credits run out, Free says wait for next week's 30 credits, or buy credits. Pay as you go says buy more credits, or turn on auto recharge. Basic keeps Ideogram models in a slower queue, up to a daily limit. Plus, Pro, and Team keep using Ideogram models in a slower queue, with no limit. These still need credits: custom models, partner models, generations that use a reference image, and image edits. The FAQ is blunt that you cannot choose the slower queue while you still have credits. While you have credits, generations use them. In a team workspace, members see only their credits in that team. Team owners also see Wallet and Billing and can top up members. Batch is run up to 500 prompts from one spreadsheet.
Treat free output as public and paid output as unpublished
On the free plan, everything you generate is public. Plus, Pro, Team, and Enterprise keep new images private until you publish them. Legacy Basic does not. The FAQ says other people see an image on those paid plans only once you publish it to the community. Publish and unpublish live under More options on an image, and Assets has Published and Unpublished tabs. Unpublishing needs a plan that includes private generation. Some team workspaces have publishing turned off. Downloads are separate from privacy. PNG needs a paid plan. Without one, including pay as you go, you can download JPEG at the original size, and transparent images as PNG at 1K. Upscale sizes need a paid plan and cost credits. Ideogram exports images as JPEG, PNG, and WEBP. The FAQ says you cannot download SVG. Remove BG, or the Background Remover app, costs 1 credit, and the button shows the cost first. You get a new image with a transparent background. Download it as PNG to keep the transparency. Character consistency, in the FAQ, means Ideogram 4.5 with one to five reference images and a tag such as @img_1. Commercial use is not a yes or no on the FAQ. It says it depends on the Terms of Service, and you are responsible for making sure the content does not break laws, other people's rights, or Ideogram's terms.
Is to sign in with Google, Apple, or Microsoft, skip the plan step if the FAQ's start path allows it, and type a prompt on Home. Free accounts that sign in that way get 30 credits each week. On the free plan, everything you generate is public, so this is a poor fit for a logo you do not want in a gallery. Email-and-password accounts do not get those weekly credits. It includes treat the 30 credits as the docs figure. If the button shows a cost before you start, that number is the check the plans page tells you to read.
Keep a poster private on Plus or Pro
For a poster with words is a paid plan, a prompt that puts the exact words in quotation marks, and Studio if one word comes back wrong. Plus is $20/month or $15/month ($180 a year) with 2,400 credits. Pro is $60/month or $42/month ($504 a year) with 7,500 credits. Yearly plans still get their credits each month, not all at once. New images stay private until you publish them. Reference images and image edits still spend credits after the slower queue is available. PNG and upscale sizes need a paid plan.
Share one credit pool across two seats
For a small group is Team, because team plans need at least 2 users. The table lists $30 per user/month or $20 per user/month ($240 per user a year) and 3,600 per user. Members see only their own credits in that team. Owners can open Buy credits and top up a member. The API uses the same credits as the app, so a key created from the sidebar spends that pool rather than a second meter. Enterprise is Custom on the table, with no dollar amount. The docs say to compare features in Settings, then Plans, or at ideogram.ai/pricing.

Leave Auto, or pick 4.5 when you need reference images, 4.0 for wide ratios, or 3.0 for style presets and a negative prompt.
4

Ideogram no longer sells the Basic plan ($8/month or $7/month billed yearly). If you already have it, you keep it and get 960 credits each month. Legacy Basic images are public. Monthly credits do not roll over. Credits you buy separately last 365 days.
You want a different image and video workspace in this catalog instead of Ideogram's model picker.
Krea is a separate listing. Ideogram's documented difference is text and JSON prompts, Ideogram 4.5 reference images, and the public-versus-private rule by plan. Do not assume Krea uses 30 weekly credits.
You are choosing another catalog image generator and do not need Ideogram's published credit table.
Midjourney is a different product. Use Ideogram when the job matches the docs: a prompt, optional reference images on 4.5, and a plan that states whether the image is public.
Ideogram: common questions
How much does Ideogram cost?
Ideogram has a free plan. Paid plans are Plus ($20/month, 2,400 credits a month), Pro ($60/month, 7,500 credits) and Team ($30 per user/month, 3,600 credits per user). Yearly prices on the plans table are $15/month ($180 a year), $42/month ($504 a year), and $20 per user/month ($240 per user a year). Enterprise is Custom. Prices are in US dollars, before tax.
Free accounts that sign in with Google, Apple, or Microsoft get 30 credits each week. Accounts created with an email and password do not get free credits. They can buy credits or subscribe. On the free plan, everything you generate is public.
Free waits for next week's 30 credits or buys credits. Plus, Pro, and Team can keep generating with Ideogram models in a slower queue. Custom models, partner models, reference images, and image edits still need credits. You cannot switch to the slower queue while credits remain.
Ideogram 4.5 is the only Ideogram model that takes reference images, up to 5, and its prompt can be text or JSON up to 10,000 characters. Ideogram 4.0 offers very wide aspect ratios such as 23:9 and 3:1, at 1K or 2K, and does not take reference images. Ideogram 3.0 is the only model with style presets, style reference images, negative prompts and color palettes.
PNG needs a paid plan. Without one you can download JPEG at the original size, and transparent images as PNG at 1K. Upscale sizes need a paid plan and cost credits. Ideogram exports JPEG, PNG, and WEBP. The FAQ says SVG is not available. Remove background costs 1 credit.
No. The API uses the same credits as the app. The FAQ says select API at the bottom of the sidebar, open API Keys, and select Create key. If you need more credits, open Billing and select Add credits. Endpoints are described at developer.ideogram.ai, which was not public as a usable page here.
NavHunt did not run Ideogram and did not create an image, a video, or an API key. Ideogram.ai returned a block during capture, so this profile uses the docs.ideogram.ai pages that were usable. Plan amounts are copied from those docs, not from a checkout. This description is based on Ideogram's official materials reviewed on 2026-10-06, including Welcome to Ideogram, Plans and Credits, Ideogram models, Ideogram FAQ.
